Yes. Adopt from 20+ characters and recolor yours with a full spread of options to make them your own.

Will I lose my friend if I get a new phone?

Your friend saves to your device and rides along in your regular phone backup. Restore your new phone from an iCloud or computer backup, and your friend comes with it.
